A MESSAGE FROM YOUR CHAPTER LEADERSHIP

As the Society’s premier educational and networking event of the year, the 2000 Annual Meeting and Seminars offers you the latest in property and casualty insurance information, leadership skills, and career enhancement opportunities. This year’s Annual Meeting and Seminars will take place in San Antonio, Texas from October 22-24, where we’ll come together with other CPCUs from across the country to celebrate "CPCU 2000: A Time To Lead." As the Annual Meeting approaches, now is a great time to start making plans to visit San Antonio and enjoy the many educational and networking events your Society has in store for you.

• Sheila Murray Bethel, a world-renowned author and lecturer will be on hand to deliver the 2000 Loman Lecture. With more than 25 years experience in applied behavioral science and an award-winning sales background, Murray Bethel offers a unique insight into leadership, change, and personal excellence. Don’t miss this special presentation, in which Murray Bethel combines expertise, inspiration, and humor for a powerful message on "LeaderShift—Making a Difference in a Constantly Changing World."

• John Naisbitt, a pioneer in the field of content analysis and a former executive with IBM and Eastman Kodak, will deliver the Keynote Address, focusing on his concept of "High Tech/High Touch." Called "the biggest idea in business today," the High Tech/High Touch theme illustrates the interplay between technology and our humanity. This powerful speaker will take you into the matrix of technology, artistic, religious, and economic forces that are unfolding as corporations and individuals enter the next century.

• This year’s Conferment Ceremony will feature Former First Lady Barbara Bush. Today, Mrs. Bush continues to serve the public by volunteering for and supporting a number of charity and humanitarian causes—with family literacy as her number one cause. In 1990, she helped to develop the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy and currently serves as honorary chairman of the Foundation. A best-selling author, Mrs. Bush’s autobiography Barbara Bush: A Memoir emphasizes the importance of family, faith, and friends.

• Following the debut of the Society’s new National Leadership Institute in June, National Leadership seminars will now be offered prior to the start of Annual Meeting each year. This year, Annual Meeting attendees may earn credits toward the NLI Certificate of Completion by taking part in optional pre-meeting leadership seminars on Friday, October 20th. Plan to arrive early to learn more about " Facilitative Leadership Skills," "Practical Management Techniques for Project Management," and " Effective Communication Skills."

• At the close of Annual Meeting, attendees and their guests will come together for a final celebration of "A Time To Lead" at the "rodeo" style Gala Celebration Event. You’ll enjoy dinner, dancing, and entertainment, and be on hand to find out which chapters will take home the Society’s top national awards! This year’s Gala will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2000.

• For members who wish to earn the maximum CE credits, the CPCU Society is offering an optional, half-day workshop on Wednesday morning following the Annual Meeting & Seminars on "Special Events: Celebration or Crisis? What YOU Need to Know." From a small town Memorial Day parade to the Superbowl Half-Time Show, all special events require effective, integrated risk management. Experts will explore risk management strategies associated with large and small special events, and define the risk management team. You’ll learn how to manage a special event effectively, and hear the perspectives of various team members, including brokers, underwriters, claims, loss control, and corporate risk management.

Remember, the networking and educational opportunities at the Society’s 56th Annual Meeting are valuable to all CPCUs regardless of when you received your designation. By now, you should all have received your copy of the 2000 Annual Meeting brochure, where you’ll find all the information you need to know about registration, educational programs, tours, social events, and conferment. You’ll also find descriptions of hotels and attractions in the San Antonio area. Remember to book early for the best selection of hotels and transportation. If you need any additional copies of the brochure, or have any questions about the Annual Meeting, you can call the Society’s Member Resource Center.

Your chapter leadership hopes that many of you will be on hand in to San Antonio to represent our chapter and to celebrate "CPCU 2000: A Time To Lead."
