ABOUT THE CPCU SOCIETY

The CPCU Society was founded in 1944 with six members - the first CPCU designees - and one chapter.  As of 2000, the Society is organized into six regions and 153 chapters with more than 29,000 members who have made a commitment to professionalism that is embodied in the CPCU commitment. The CPCU professional insurance designation is conferred by the American Institute for CPCU after passing ten rigorous college-level essay examinations and agreeing to abide by a rigorous code of ethics.   Society members represent a cross section of professional disciplines including insurance company executives, agents, brokers, risk managers, underwriters, consultants, attorneys, claims specialists, and actuaries.  Most CPCU's hold membership in the CPCU Society to keep abreast of national and local insurance issues and to keep pace with the industry's rapid changes. Our Philadelphia chapter is proud to not only be one of the Society's 153 chapters, but also to be one of its largest and most visible.

The Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters Society is dedicated to meeting the needs of professionals who have earned the CPCU designation, so that they may serve others in a competent and ethical manner.
